A Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Kaduna, on Wednesday, sentenced a 32-year-old man Haruna Garba, to 10 months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Garba after he pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and theft.

Emmanuel, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30, 000 and ordered him to restitute the sum of N150,000 to the complainant, Yusuf Ahmed.

The magistrate held that the motorcycle was fairly used and could not be of the same value with a new one.

He ruled that in the event that the convict failed to restitute the complainant, he shall serve additional 8 months prison term.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, had told the court that on Jan. 20, the complainant reported the matter at Gabasawa Police Station.

Leo stated that the complainant told the police that the convict had conspired with two others, now at large, spiked his drink and made him lose consciousness.

The prosecutor added that that while the complainant was unconscious, the convict and his accomplices stole his TVS motorcycle valued at N380,000.

Leo said the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.(NAN)
